to hell with them

I'm a teacher.  Most of you know this by now, and if you don't already, you're about to learn quickly.  This blog is dedicated to the things I've learned from the children who've graced my life.  This blog will teach you things you should already know but don't, things you want to know, and maybe some crude reality.  Children are the vehicle for such things and we ignore the things they say and do because we're too stuck in our adult worlds; attached to our adult idiosyncrasy.  Why?  Because we're afraid to listen.  We're afraid that children's books screaming 'individuality', 'creativity', and 'vulnerability' will touch us in some way that nothing ever has.  If children can be so receptive, then what's wrong with us?  Think about that one.

So, the first lesson to be learned is this:  love yourself no matter what because you're you and that's that.  It doesn't matter if she thinks you're not good enough for him, or if he thinks you're a slut.  It doesn't matter if she thinks you don't have good enough clothes, or if he thinks you're ugly.  Who cares?  It doesn't matter.  We have to live for ourselves.  To hell with them.

"And I don't care in any way
what someone else might think or say.
I may be called a silly nut
or crazy cuckoo bird-- so what?
I'm having too much fun, you see,
for anything to bother me!
Even when I look a mess,
I still don't like me any less,
'cause nothing in this world, you know,
can change what's deep inside, and so...
No matter if they stop and stare,
no person
ever
anywhere
can make me feel that what they see
is all there really is to me."
